The Lights Go Down On A Broadway Career
The Lights Go Down On A Broadway Career
To the Editor:
Imagine my surprise and delight to see my picture in last weekâs Bee, smiling next to our gracious host Vincent Capuano and my husband, Justin Scott, and to learn in the photo caption that, unbeknownst to me, I was the winner of a Tony Award! Having never appeared on Broadway or written a Broadway play or musical (to my knowledge), it was all the more surprising to learn of this honor. (Perhaps that explains my husbandâs startled expression.) If only I could remember it....did I make a good speech and thank the right people? What did I wear? My theater friends are, frankly, dumbfounded at this discovery and, I suspect, even a little jealous. What did she ever do to deserve a Tony, they are whispering.
But not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I have blown up the Beeâs photo and caption and nailed it to my bossâs door, along with my demand for a raise and a promotion, befitting my new status. And Iâll certainly have to have a chat with my agent about bigger billing...if only I had an agent.
With Deepest Gratitude,
Amber Edwards

(Editorâs note: We must inform our readers and Ms Edwards that she is the winner of multiple New York Regional Emmy Awards for arts programming and not the Tony Award as the referenced caption incorrectly reported.)
