‘City Of Angels’ On The Stage

At WestConn Forp Three Weekends

DANBURY — The Tony Award-winning City of Angels, a combination musical comedy and film noir detective story, will be performed Western Connecticut State University’s Berkshire Theatre for three weekends in November.

Performances will be Wednesday through Saturday, November 4-7; Friday through Sunday, November 13-15; and Friday and Saturday, November 20-21. Performances will be at 7:30 pm on opening night, and at 8 pm all other evenings. There will also be a matinee at 2 pm on Sunday, November 15.

Tickets are $18 for adults, and $13 for seniors, students and children on November 6, 13 and 20; and $20 for adults, and $15 for seniors, students and children on November 7, 14 and 21.

Matinee tickets will be $15 for adults, and $10 for seniors, students and children.

Professor of Theatre Arts Sal Trapani, the show’s producer, explains the play’s premise.

“City of Angels tells the story of Stine, who is trying to write a screenplay and make a film for Buddy, a movie mogul,” he said. “Stine has to keep making changes and compromising his ideals to satisfy Buddy.

“The main character in the screenplay, Stone, is a detective, and the differences in Stine’s story and Stone’s story, which run parallel, are illustrated by completely different soundtracks, as well as the use of color. Stine’s story is live, in color, on the stage. Stone’s is in black and white on film. Ultimately the movie and real life come together and Stine and Stone challenge each other.” The Broadway production earned Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (James Naughton), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Randy Graff) and Best Scenic Design.

Berkshire Theatre is on WestConn’s main campus, on Osborne Street.
