Medicare Bus, Love & Knishes Programs Announced

SOUTHBURY — Are you confused about all the options again for Medicare Part D prescription drug plans?

Get your questions answered when you sign up for a spot on the computer-equipped Medicare Bus from the Connecticut Department of Social Services. Appointments are available on Monday, November 23, from 10 am to 2 pm, to help seniors evaluate and/ or choose their drug plan.

This free program is open to the public and is sponsored by the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, the Connecticut Department of Social Services, and Brownstein Jewish Family Service. It takes place at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North.

A list of medications should be brought along. Early registration is recommended for this important, free service, as last year all spots were quickly filled. Appointments last approximately 45 minutes.

For those who are unable to have a personal appointment on the bus, the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging (WCAAA) is encouraging people on Medicare to have their prescriptions drugs run through the Medicare Plan Finder to make sure that they have a plan that best meets their needs for 2010.

WCAAA can send you a personal information form to fill out, and they will return it to you with the three lowest cost plans covering all or most of your prescriptions. Call 203-757-5449 for details.

In other news, two musical programs will be featured during November at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North. On November 17, Gershwin and All That Jazz features pianist Roger Young playing George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Scott Joplin and some short classical pieces and special requests.

On November 24, singer/guitarist and former State Troubadour Pierce Campbell appears in concert. He is well known for his repertoire of Irish music, sea chanteys and folk songs from around the world. A Woodbury native, he is a member of the Kerry Boys and the Funky Butt Jazz Band and has five CDs to his credit.

All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy themselves with Jordan Caterers of Cheshire’s hot lunch, which is served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.

Lunch reservations must be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP for either program, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
