Jeannine M. LaCroce, 94, of Newtown, passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice in Danbury on November 7, 2022.

Jeannine was born on January 6, 1928, in Montreal, the daughter of Agnes and Stefan Mohera. She grew up with her four sisters in Montreal and was very active in outdoor sports such as tennis, ice skating, roller skating, and skiing. In 1951, she came to New York City and worked for several years in the Garment District, which enhanced Jeannine’s life-long sense of style and impeccable dress. In 1954, she married Louis LaCroce, with whom she shared her life for 65 years. During that time, Jeannine became a United States Citizen, which was a source of pride for her.

Jeannine was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and its wildlife, particularly birds, and would raise orphaned nestlings until fledged. She enjoyed all the seasons but cherished the Christmas holiday time. Along with operating a Christmas ornament boutique for many years, Jeannine loved to select and decorate the Christmas tree and create beautiful table settings for the family holiday dinners.

Jeannine possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was a voracious reader who was always keen to learn. Throughout her life she maintained a strong interest in national and local current events. Above all, Jeannine is remembered as a woman devoted to her family, and one who adored spending time with and doting on her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Jeannine is survived by her two sons, Stephen and Joseph; daughters-in-law Louise and Teresa; and her five grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Marilyn, Alex, and Tyler.

Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown on Saturday, November 12, from 10 to 11:30 am. Interment will follow at noon at Newtown Village Cemetery, Elm Drive, Newtown.
