Volleyball Team Goes Unbeaten, Carries Success Into Start Of Playoffs

UPDATE: The Nighthawks defeated Brookfield 3-0 in the semifinal and will host New Milford in the Friday, November 13, championship game at 5 pm.

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team finished off its perfect regular season with a triumph over visiting Brookfield on November 4, then defeated visiting Abbott Tech of Danbury in the South-West Conference North Division Tournament quarterfinals on November 9, earning a spot in Wednesday’s semis. The Nighthawks are scheduled to host Brookfield at 6 pm.

The Nighthawks defeated Brookfield 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-8). Amanda Araujo tallied eight kills; Sarah Nowacki had four aces and four kills; Grace Miller logged two aces and three kills; Keyera Smith had three aces and four kills; Kate Petersen had a trio of kills; and Delia Clouden had two aces.

Against Abbott Tech, the Hawks won 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-13). Petersen had six of Newtown’s 21 aces. Nowacki had four aces, and Smith and Arden Hildenbrand each contributed three. Nowacki and Miller had seven and five kills, respectively.
