Top-seeded Newtown High School blanked No. 17 Hamden 6-0 in the first round of the Class L state field hockey tournament, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on November 13.

The Nighthawks led 2-0 at halftime and did not give the Green Dragons a chance to get back into the game by scoring only 29 seconds out of the halftime break.

Katie Goyda scored her second goal, off an assist from Reagan Schoen, to make it 3-0 Hawks. Schoen finished with a goal and two assists.

Kat Trammel scored the next two goals and Jenna Reilly, assisted by Goyda, capped the scoring.

Newtown will host No 9 Norwalk in the quarterfinals on Friday, November 15; game time is set for 5 pm.
