Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue (NUSAR) invites the public to observe as NUSAR divers carry out a car recovery drill at the town boat launch on Hanover Road, Sunday, November 24, from 9 am to noon.

Stop by for some hot chocolate and treats to watch and talk with the volunteer divers as they use SCUBA to recover and lift a car out of the water.

NUSAR is an all-volunteer emergency response team of 20 divers dedicated to saving lives through search and rescue operations. Divers are trained for underwater recovery, inspections, and “dry” presentations.

Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue also promotes water safety awareness education through Life Jacket Loaner Program by BoatUS Foundation to provide free loaner life jackets to children. NUSAR members are happy to give talks, demonstrate, and share ideas on water safety to various groups.

NUSAR divers train on the third Sunday of every month. Drills take place in one of the local water bodies, such as Lake Zoar, Lake Lillinonah, or Taunton Pond, or the Newtown High School pool. Every month, divers practice and repeat skills and scenarios to make them confident and competent during an emergency call.

For more information, call 203-270-4390 or e-mail info@nusar.org.
