Family: I have two siblings, my mom, and my dad and a stepmom.

Pets: I have three cats and a dog.

Work: I am in my 13th year of teaching at Newtown High School. I teach French and Spanish, and I’m also the Chess Club advisor. I also teach chess at Sandy Hook School.

Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? I’m in the United States Figure Skating Association and ISI, which is the International Skating Industry. I am a figure skater — low level, but I do compete. I am also a member of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Stratford. I’m also a member of the Gaelic-American Club in Fairfield.

What do you like to do in your free time? Ice skating is a huge passion of mine. I’m a member of a synchro team, and an artistry group, and I compete individually. I also do plays at the Gaelic Club.

Do you have a favorite author? I’m getting my master’s in library science, so I like to read a lot. I don’t have a favorite author, but I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I love audiobooks because I commute and can listen to them then. I learn a lot by listening to them.

What is the most recent book you’ve read? I just finished By Book or By Crook by Eva Gates. It’s part of a cozy murder-mystery series about a librarian, and her library’s in a lighthouse.

Who would you like to be stuck in an elevator with? A chess master with a chess board, so he can teach me something. A really good one, because if I’m going to be stuck there some for hours I want to be playing chess or do something to pass the time.

Do you have a favorite podcast? I love “The Clutterbug.” She’s all about organizing and decorating.

Favorite food? Anything with chocolate.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I’ve been to Tunisia. It was amazing to go to Africa and see another world. One place I’d love to go is Greece.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown High School? I like that we’re allowed to do more fun activities, and cultural activities, where the kids really want to go. We just had National French Week last week, when we got together in the Lecture Hall and we had food and a big celebration. That was fun. The month before that, I was a chaperone on an opera trip. We went to the Metropolitan Opera House, to see an opera for Italian Night. We have such great opportunities here.

Do you have a personal credo? Always be open to new opportunities. I think that’s part of why I’m getting my master’s now. I always like to try new things. Even skating, I picked that up as an adult. Most people only do that when they’re kids.
