Advocacy For Stroke Survivors
BRIDGEPORT â âCommunity Resources and Advocacy for Stroke Survivorsâ is the theme for the next meeting of the St Vincentâs Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group on Wednesday, April 21, from 5:30 to 7 pm in the Seton Room on Level âCâ of the Medical Center.
Featured speaker will be Carrie Kramer, MA, CRC. Ms Kramer is the director of brain injury services at the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut, a certified rehabilitation counselor, and holds a masterâs degree in rehabilitation counseling.
Ms Kramer has worked as a professional in the brain injury community for the past 19 years. Additionally, she has served as a faculty member at the University of Connecticut Center on Disabilities, and as an adjunct instructor in the graduate counseling program at New Mexico Highlands University.
The Stroke Survivors and Caregivers Support Group addresses the concerns and needs of stroke survivors and their caregivers. It also provides an opportunity for participants to interact with others for emotional support as well as to share strategies and techniques to improve their quality of life.
Speech, occupational, and physical therapists as well as neurologists and social workers are also available to provide information and links to services in the community. The group is sponsored by St Vincentâs Department of Social Work and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
There is no charge for attendance at the group. Parking is free with validated ticket.
