South Main Street

A two-car collision involving a sedan and a coupe occurred near 228 South Main Street about 3:05 pm March 29, police said.

In that accident, motorist Margot Modlin, 75, of New York City, who was driving a 2002 Cadillac DHS sedan, struck the rear end of a 1985 Porsche 944 coupe driven by Ashly Bartholomew, 57, of Milford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Modlin for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Crash

While traveling eastward on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Turnberry Lane, about 5:54 pm March 31, motorist Corey Devellis, 20, of 16 Rowledge Pond Road, who was driving a 1994 Buick Park Avenue, struck the rear end of a 2001 Nissan Maxima driven by Alfred Bissett, 41, of 11 Miya Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Devellis an infraction on charges of following too closely and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Warrant Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, David Hyde, 18, of 3 Owl Ridge Lane, turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of March 31, and was charged with second-degree breach of peace, police said.

The arrest stems from a February 17 incident at Newtown High School, according to police.

After processing, police released Hyde on $250 bail for an April 15 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police said that while on patrol about 12:49 am April 3, they stopped motorist Maureen Powers, 46, of 15 Wills Road because she failed to keep to the right side of the road while driving an unspecified vehicle near 48 South Main Street.

After performing field sobriety tests on Powers, police said they charged her with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving.

Following processing, police released Powers on $100 bail for an April 14 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Intersection Accident

About 4:22 pm on March 23, motorist Nancy Gotschlich, 40, of 8 Teachers Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Mercury Sable station wagon, drove into the rear end of a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV driven by motorist Robert Campbell, 49, of 4 Stonewall Ridge Road, police said. The accident occurred on Key Rock Road at its intersection with Sugar Street.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gotschlich for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

ATV Violations

Police report that on April 1, they charged a youth under age 18 with three violations related to the illegal use of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) last December in the Dug Hill Road area.

Police charged the youth with driving an all-terrain vehicle without the written permission of a land owner, driving an unregistered all-terrain vehicle, and with simple trespassing.

Following processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on April 12. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged such offenses.

Hazardous Spot

Police report a three-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Walnut Tree Hill Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 8:10 am March 30.

The accident involved motorist Melinda Rohde, 47, of 40 Valley Field Road South, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Armada SUV, motorist Marilyn Dogas, 64, of 57 Jo-Al Court, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix hatchback, and motorist William O’Connell, 52, of 17 Valley Field Road South, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rohde a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police report they gave Dogas a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

I-84 Incident

About 3:46 pm on March 31, while traveling eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, motorist Raymond Sepulveda, 19, of Danbury had a mattress attached to the roof of the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV that he was driving, state police report.

The mattress, however, then blew off the roof of the Jeep and struck an eastbound 1992 Volvo 940-GL traveling behind the Jeep, which was being driven by Albert Portal, 53, of West Hartford, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Sepulveda a misdemeanor summons for failure to secure a load and for driving while under suspension.

Highway Crash

State police report that at about 7:23 am on March 31, Alfonso Jimenez, 63, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., who was driving a 1998 Freightliner truck on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, attempted to change travel lanes, but struck motorist Bruce Zeh, 58, of Oakland, N.J., who was driving a 2010 Infiniti G-37.

There were no injuries. State police issued Jimenez an infraction for making an unsafe lane change.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

While driving a 2000 Subaru southward near 159 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 7:40 pm April 5, motorist Ryan Pineau, 20, of 47 Waterview Drive encountered a deer that had entered the street, police said. The auto and the deer collided. Pineau was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Dodge Vs Audi

Police report a two-vehicle accident in a commercial parking lot at 151 South Main Street about 7:37 am April 2.

In that incident, motorist Matthew Walter, 23, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, inadvertently backed into an unoccupied 2003 Audi sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

 

Rollerblading

About 1:13 pm on April 3, police received a call reporting a problem at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).

Police said a boy under age 18 had skated into the large supermarket on rollerblades. After being told to leave the premises, the boy reportedly reentered the store and started rollerblading again, police said.

The boy nearly collided with store customers while rollerblading and the youth also threw a jug of juice onto the store’s floor, police said.

Police apprehended the youth and then arrested him on charges of second-degree breach of peace, second-degree criminal trespassing, and third-degree criminal mischief.

Following arrest processing, police released the boy into the custody of a parent for an April 12 court appearance on the charges. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
