Our entire CIAC/Unified Sports staff was disappointed to learn that Kathy Davey will not be continuing as Newtown High School’s Unified Sports coach. She has been a vital and involved coach and has developed one of the finest Unified Sports programs in the state.

Since she founded the team in 2013, she led the development of the program and brought it to a premier level.

The Newtown program transcends sport and exemplifies the best practices in inclusion for students of all abilities. Among other accomplishments, Kathy and the team have:

*Earned the Michaels’ Cup Award for the Outstanding High School Unified Sports Program;

*Been honored as High School Unified Coach of the Year;

*Presented break-out sessions at multiple High School and Middle School Youth Summits;

*Hosted tournaments each season, including other schools in the area and helping to improve their program offerings;

*Attended coaches’ trainings to share expertise and enthusiasm with other coaches;

*Promoted Inclusion by having the team be a presence at the CIAC Basketball Championships at Mohegan Sun;

*Competed during half-time games the CIAC Basketball Championships at Mohegan Sun;

*Traveled to Toronto with members of the program to participate in the 2019 Youth Games.

In every involvement, Kathy has represented her team, Newtown High School, and the Newtown Public Schools exquisitely. We have often marveled at her positive outlook, energy, and unbridled enthusiasm. It is no wonder that the Unified teammates at Newtown High School have been leaders among their peers at the state level and represented the best our program has to offer.

We offer her our congratulations on her amazing accomplishments with Unified Sports. We will miss her as a leader for the Newtown HS team and among her colleagues across the state. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and hope that she will continue to be an ambassador for Connecticut Unified Sports.

Sincerely,

Robert Hale, Director
