“Me thinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow.” The famous quote, penned by Henry David Thoreau in the 1800s, was the first slide instructor Sean Fitzpatrick’s showed during “The True Meaning of ‘Move It or Lose It”’ class at C.H. Booth Library on February 28.

It never ceases to amaze me how the ring of the phone, a split second event, or a spontaneous decision can decisively alter our intended course of action. It had been my original intention to write a column on this year’s Westminster Kennel Club show and the events leading up to it — the opening of the AKC’s Museum of the Dog, the annual Meet the Breeds, Agility and Obedience championships — but that dramatically changed when the Westminster Kennel Club winner was booed. How does that happen at such an austere event that celebrates man’s best friend?!

From chickadees to woodpeckers and orioles and from ants to bears, Margaret Robbins discussed ways to welcome some of the many bird species to the backyard while providing ways to animal- and insect-proof feeders from culprits of all sizes during “Bonding With Birds,” hosted by The Garden Club of Newtown at C.H. Booth Library on February 26.

Stephen Schwartz’s "Working, a musical," based on the Studs Terkel book with the similar title, has been updated and localized by Director Daniel C. Levine and is now on stage at ACT of Connecticut. In its new form, the show is an intimate and personalized glimpse into the lives of the workers who make our worlds go round.

As the main theater at The Edmond Town Hall closes for repairs during March, a Dark Night Cabaret series will take place on Fridays that month in the Alexandria Room. All other building functions remain open.
