To The Editor:

The Newtown Choral Society played to an enthusiastic crowd as we presented our winter concert, Songs of Reflection and Celebration, Sunday, January 17, at The Meeting House.

Presenting musical pieces in nine languages from five countries and Africa, the concert included lullabies in Japanese and Russian and songs in two African languages.  Our director, Mary Andreotta, led us in an exhilarating program while Susan Anthony-Klein, once again, inspired us with her transformative performance as our accompanist.

We were delighted to welcome back choir alumni Sharon Goodkowsky, as she raised her voice as solo-ist in Freedom Come. We thank flutist Jennie Anthony Bogue for her lyrical performance. We also welcomed back Reed Faculty member Bob Nolte as percussionist.

We would like to thank The Newtown Bee for its support, but especially Nancy Crevier and Shannon Hicks for keeping our name before the public.

We thank our ticket takers Christopher Gamble and Dena Riccio. We also thank Clive Beddoe-Stephens, Chuck Magoulas, Dick Zang and Jonathan Gamble for taking charge of our equipment.

The choir would specifically like to thank Nancy Dvorin for creating and supporting our Facebook page. And we thank Peg Heetmann, our long time treasurer, for her service.

Finally, we must thank my husband, Kenneth, for his computer expertise, his patience and his muscle.

The Newtown Choral Society, now entering its 30th year, will begin rehearsals for its spring concert February 17th. We are a community choir and welcome new members from all area towns and have openings in all voices. Our soloists come from our membership.

If it is your time to raise your voice in song in a supportive environment, contact me at 426-3769 or lel-choir2@se-ltd.com to discuss joining the Newtown Choral Society.  We perform two concerts a year, sing at local events and weddings and practice Wednesday evenings at the Newtown Middle School.
