To the Editor:

Leaps of Faith [LOF Adaptive Skiers] is a wonderful group of volunteers who invest their time in sharing the joys of recreation with the disabled. They were offered an area in Newtown that was most conducive to their waterskiing program. I am saddened to hear that they are facing such opposition.

Some people just don't have as many options as others. The wide array of people that LOF serves is one of those groups that doesn't have a whole lot of options.

What is it to share open space, recreational space so that others can experience those joys and the fellowship that develops? Complaints of traffic from people coming together to serve and help one another seem to miss the point. These are not unruly gatherings! Noise? Joyful noise, laughter, people gathering in community should be as welcome as the noise of children playing.

I cannot support the complainants. I actually find it shameful that they are behaving in such a way that the selectmen are reconsidering their offer to LOF. I see nothing but good coming out of such a fine organization.
