To the Editor:

Over the bulk of my lifetime, I have always thought of the United States Senate as the grownups in Congress. Sadly, that no longer appears to be the case and I can only hope that it will change back again. Obviously the Senate Republicans subscribe to the adage that (a little) knowledge is a dangerous thing. Apparently it is much easier to cast an uninformed vote when your head is firmly stuck in the sand.
