Harry E. Geddes

Harry E. Geddes, 86, husband of the late Myrtle (Buechner) Geddes of Osborn Hill Road, Sandy Hook, died March 29, in Heritage Heights Healthcare Center, Danbury.

Mr Geddes was born in Quincy, Mass., October 29, 1916, a son of the late Harry and Emma (Johnson) Geddes. He lived most of his life in Mineola and West Hampton Beach, Long Island.

Harry was an aircraft mechanic and was employed by American Airlines from before World War II until the early 1950s. He then went into aircraft repair at Suffolk County Airport and operated Geddes Aircraft until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of Mineola Lodge #985 AF & AM, served as a major in the Civil Air Patrol, and was a member of the Long Island Early Flyers. When his sons were growing up, Mr Geddes had served as a Cub Scout Scoutmaster.

A resident of Sandy Hook since 1997, Harry was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church and will be remembered for the cowboy hat he wore while serving bread at the monthly church spaghetti dinners. He was a member of Almost Home in Danbury.

Harry is survived by a daughter, Marcia Maurer of Sandy Hook; a son, Jeffrey Geddes of Holtsville, L.I., N.Y.; a sister, Esther Rose of Harwinton; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Warren Geddes.

Funeral services were held April 1 in the Newtown United Methodist Church. Burial was in Maple Cemetery, Kensington.

The Honan Funeral, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
