Not So Nice

To the Editor:

The outcome of the Charter Revision vote was a sad commentary on voter participation and activism. While the advisory questions might prove helpful to the council, not voting is never helpful to anyone. Especially to the volunteers and their chairman, the Honorable William Lavery — a person who has given his entire adult life to making Newtown and the state a better place to live.

The real resulting tragedy of the Charter Revision vote outcome was the vicious vitriolic remarks, many of them personal, especially on the Newtown Patch.

For the 30 years that I lived in Newtown and the 22 years that I was elected to serve the public on the Legislative Council the town was spared that type of venom. The constant tearing down, derisive criticism, destructive attacks now prevalent seem to be destroying any remaining traces of “Nicer in Newtown.” Those perpetrators who are so unhappy with Newtown and Newtowners might well benefit all if they were to find a more compatible environment elsewhere. Thus allowing the townspeople to again know that it really is Nicer In Newtown!
