Joseph C. Fazio, 78, of Newtown, died April 15, in Bethel Health Care Center. He was born in Bridgeport, September 30, 1933, a son of Grace (Petiuccelli) and Carl Fazio. Mr Fazio was the husband of Pauline (Gallup) Fazio.

He was a graduate of Fairfield University and served in the US Air Force. Mr Fazio was a longtime chemistry teacher, first at Immaculate High School then at New Fairfield High School, until his retirement.

He also coached baseball and boys’ and girls’ basketball.

A resident of Newtown for 50 years, Mr Fazio was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid golfer after his retirement.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Carl J. Fazio, and his wife Helena, of Bethel and Paul J. Fazio of Managua, Nicaragua; a daughter, Jodi McPherson, and her husband John, of Raleigh, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 19 in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery.
