The Second Annual Mad Dash adventure race will be held on Saturday, June 8, at Fairfield Hills. Hosted by Newtown Youth Academy and Newtown Parks & Recreation, and sponsored by Danbury Orthopedics, the Mad Dash offers participants the ultimate in fitness adventure.

Participants will run, jump, crawl, carry, and climb their way through scenic Fairfield Hills campus, utilizing both its natural topography as well as man-made structures. This fun but challenging course includes physical challenges, running, and skilled events.

Participants may choose from two levels: Beginner/Family (8 years and older) or Advanced (14 years and older).

The advanced course will test even the most seasoned athlete with a difficult run component and challenges. The Beginner/Family course will have significantly less running with modified challenges as it is designed for families and intermediate fitness enthusiasts.

Early bird registration, by May 17, is $25 for adults, $15 for children. After that, and on the day of the race, registration is $35 and $20, respectively.

Register online through Newtown Parks & Recreation (Activity #414110).

Teams of ten can register for $150. Teams must register together at the Parks & Recreation office, in Town Hall South, 3 Main Street, and run in the same course.

The Advanced run will begin at 8:30 am and the Beginner/Family participants will run at 9:30 am. All participants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of their race.

Children ages 8-13 may participate with a parent, but must do the beginner/family course.  Children ages 14+ can run without an adult and participate in advanced course.

Visit NYA’s website or Facebook page for updates.

Slopping through mud on hands and knees, hurdling piles of hay, and pulling themselves from rung to rung - monkey bar-style - on a ladder suspended from trees, approximately 120 athletes of various ages participated in Newtown's first Mad Dash Adventure Race in June 2012.
