Hawk Sluggers Double Up Glastonbury 6-3 But Fall To Greenwich

CJ Demers went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in to help the No. 20 Newtown High School baseball team double up host and No. 13 Glastonbury 6-3 in the Class LL state tournament’s first round on June 2.

Grayson DeFelice and Dylan Goyette also knocked in runs. Jack Petersen had two hits and two runs scored, and Charlie Eppers had two hits and a run scored. Eppers stole two bases and Charlie Curtis, Zach Majeski, Demers, Goyette, and Petersen also swiped a base.

Newtown starting pitcher David Braun went six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits; he walked two and struck out a pair of batters. Zander Kasbarian came on to close it out and pick up the save.

With the win, the Nighthawks earned a second-round visit to No. 4 Greenwich on June 2 and dropped a 6-5 heart-breaker. Read more about the Greenwich game in the June 11 print edition of The Bee.
