Traveling Too Fast

Newtown Police report Joseph Keller, 27, of Southbury, operating a 2001 Subaru Impreza, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 12:40 am June 13. The report states Keller lost control while negotiating a curve in the roadway and struck a metal guardrail off the shoulder of the eastbound lane.

No injuries were reported. Keller’s vehicle suffered heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

Keller was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Elantra Vs Grand Cherokee

Newtown Police report Michael Grasso, 54, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling on Hanover Road heading towards the intersection with Main Street at 6:54 am June 14. Thomas Brigante, 40, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was stopped on Hanover Road waiting to make a left turn onto Main Street.

Police say Brigante began to move forward, then stopped for traffic. Grasso drove forward and his vehicle collided with the rear end of Brigante’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Grasso was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Did Not Slow In Time

Newtown Police report Erik Spiegel, 45, of Brookfield, operating a 2008 Toyota Avalon, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:40 pm June 14. He was traveling behind Gloria Adomako, 26, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Mercedes GLC 300. Adomako slowed for traffic and Spiegel did not slow in time to avoid contact with her vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Spiegel was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Collision At Exit 9

Newtown Police report Carolyn Reilley, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Audi A4, was stopped at a stop sign, preparing to turn left from the Interstate 84 exit ramp onto Hawleyville Road, at 4:48 pm June 15. Sarah Rawding, 21, of Naugatuck, operating a 2018 Subaru Legacy, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road. Police say Rawding was slowing and preparing to turn left onto the I84 west on-ramp. Reilley began to turn left onto Hawleyville Road and the front right bumper of his vehicle struck the rear left bumper of Rawding’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Reilley was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Motorcyclist Injured

Newtown Police report Caitlin Collina, 21, of Patterson, N.Y., operating a 2018 Subaru Outback, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road near the Interstate 84 westbound on-ramp at 9:20 pm June 15. John McCabe, 69, of Bethel, operating a 2012 Triumph T100 motorcycle, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road near the I84 westbound on-ramp. Police say Collina made a left turn onto the I84 on ramp, failing to grant right of way to McCabe, causing a collision.

McCabe was transported by Newtown Emergency Services with a suspected serious injury. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The accident is still under investigation and enforcement is pending.

Honda Hits Isuzu

Newtown Police report Mark McHugh, 65, of Killingworth, operating a 2019 Honda HR-V, was traveling east on Wasserman Way in the right turn lane onto Berkshire Road at 4:57 pm June 16. Michael Constantino, 23, of Daytona Beach, Fla, operating a 2004 Isuzu NPR, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road through the intersection with a green light. Police say McHugh attempted to turn right on red, striking Constantino’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

No injuries were reported.

Enforcement action was not mentioned in the report.

Impact At Intersection

Newtown Police report Anna Maher, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Land Rover Range Rover, was traveling southbound on Edmond Road at 10:31 am June 17. She was behind a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Nancy DiBattista, 72, of Sandy Hook, which was stopped in traffic at a red traffic control signal at Church Hill Road. Police say the front bumper of Maher’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of DiBattista’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Maher was issued a written warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.

Struck Parked Vehicle

Newtown Police report John Aurelia, 61, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, was pulling into a parking space at 23 Barnabas Road at 5:35 pm June 17. While doing so, his vehicle struck an unoccupied 2022 Infiniti Qx60 owned by Chirag Patel of Northford.

Both vehicles suffered minor damage.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
