Day Trip Planned By Mattatuck

WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum is offering a special day trip on Wed, August 23, join fellow art lovers for a trip to the Berkshires to visit the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown to view the current exhibit “Noble Dreams, Wicked Pleasures: Orientalism in America, 1870-1930,” and then Mass Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams.

The guided tour will include a selection of their current exhibits, including “Uberorgan” (a massive musical instrument), a new work by Los Angeles-based artist Tim Hawkinson, billed as possibly the largest indoor sculpture ever created, and Mike Glier’s “Full Moon on the Hoosic, 2000,” a large wall drawing teeming with plant life swarming over moonlit reflections in the Hoosic River. The naturalistic, narrative-imbued works of European artists Joseph Bueys’ “Lighting with Stag in its Glare” and a Mario Merz piece are also on display.

Lunch will take place at The Orchards. The bus will depart from the Mattatuck at 7:30 and return at 6 pm. Cost is $90.

Registration and pre-payment are required. To reserve seats or for further info, call the Mattatuck Museum at 203/753-0381.
