To the Editor:

The Newtown Forest Association recently lost a great member and leader in Doug Rogers, who passed away. Doug was an NFA board member for over 40 years, serving as a past president and a current board member emeritus. In addition to his work with the NFA, Doug was a man of many interests, which he enthusiastically shared with everyone.

During Doug’s tenure at the NFA, he was an important part of the tremendous growth of the organization. His work with land owners and donors helped shape the nature of open space in Newtown. His collaboration with Josephine Holcombe, which enabled the NFA to preserve our most popular properties, Holcombe Hill, is a testament to his dedication to open space.

On behalf of the entire NFA board, we would like to take the time to recognize Doug (along with his late wife, Marge) for his service to the Newtown Forest Association and the town of Newtown over these many years. This is a true loss to the community and the organizations with whom he was involved. Our thoughts are with Doug’s family; he will be missed by all.

Bart Smith, Vice President

Newtown Forest Association

55 Great Hill Road, Newtown August 14, 2019
