To the Editor:

Regarding the [police report] in your August 21st issue about the two men from New York City who tried to cash checks for substantial amounts at several branches of the Newtown Savings Bank recently, one of which was successful, I know that I and probably some of your readers would appreciate more information about it. Thus, was the person who cashed the $17,900 check at their Trumbull branch the payee on it and was payment made in cash, i.e., 170 one hundred dollar bills? How did their branches in Newtown and Shelton know that the checks they were asked to cash were stolen? Why did they pick branches of the Newtown Savings Bank to cash the checks when there were plenty of other banks they could have chosen that would have been nearer to their homes; did one or both of them have an account with that bank?
