Sandy Hook FD Open House

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company members invite everyone to stop by the fire department’s main station, at 18 Riverside Road, on Sunday, October 7. The fire company will be hosting an open house from 11 am until 2 pm, in part to kick off Fire Prevention Week and the 2007 theme of “Practice Your Escape Plan.”

There will be educational materials, and visitors will be able to try on some of the firefighters’ gear. The department is also planning two live demonstrations during the open house. There will be an extrication from a motor vehicle at 12:30, and then they will extinguish a car fire around 1:15.

Additional highlights of the open house will include members of Newtown Police Department offering car seat safety, the State Police Seat Belt Convincer (which simulates a motor vehicle accident at five miles per hour, teaching riders the importance of wearing a seat belt), free blood pressure checks by Newtown Ambulance, and visits with Smokey the Bear.
