To the Editor:

My name is Scarlett Lewis and I have lived in Sandy Hook for 23 years. I have known Chand Ahuja, who is running for the Board of Finance, and his wife, Roberta, since they moved here 18 years ago. I feel a strong need to advocate for Chand because I know it is in our collective best interest based on his unique and impressive qualifications and experience. He has also shown me his trustworthiness and dedication as a fellow human being.

When I think of good neighbors, I think of the Ahujas. Six weeks before the tragedy, I was having a hard time and thought about whom I wanted to emulate. It was the Ahujas. The boys and I started attending their church. Chand actually helped with the nursery the week before the shooting and played with Jesse. The first phone call I made after being told Jesse was dead was to Roberta. Thankfully she was with her pastor and they came over immediately. They cared for my animals for weeks as I was grief struck. In fact, they still do when I travel for the Choose Love Movement.

The Ahujas are the epitome of the morals and values I would like to see more of. They are not just kind, they truly care. They are dedicated to their family, friends, and community.

I learnt through my devastating loss that the health and wellbeing of our children, town, and ourselves requires that we take personal responsibility in our decisions. You can do this through your vote. Please tell others about Chand. This is how the Choose Love Movement’s message has spread throughout the world, transforming and saving lives on a consistent basis. I strongly urge everyone to vote for Chand. It’s the right decision for the future of our town.
