Home and property owners and those with docks along Newtown’s shores of Lakes Zoar and Lillinonah will experience the annual drawing down of water levels in the coming weeks.

The following details were issued October 4 from FirstLight Power, a leading clean power producer, developer and energy storage company and steward of more than 14,000 acres and hundreds of miles of shoreline along some of the region’s most beautiful rivers and lakes.”

Beginning on October 15, FirstLight will conduct a fall drawdown of Lake Zoar at the Stevenson Dam to conduct its maintenance and inspection activities. The normal summer operating range of the station is from 103’-100’ — and the drawdown will target an elevation of 98.5’.

The Zoar drawdown will lower lake levels to minimum pond levels and return to normal operating elevations on October 26.

All homeowners are encouraged to remove structures, boat lifts, and docks from Lake Zoar to prevent ice or flood damage from occurring during the winter months. All work planned to occur along the shoreline requires prior permitting from FirstLight, who can be contacted at lake.permits@firstlightpower.com.

Beginning on October 26, FirstLight will conduct a drawdown of Lake Lillinonah at the Shepaug Dam to conduct further maintenance and inspection activities. The normal summer operating range of the station is from 200’-195.5’ — and the drawdown will target an elevation of 191’.

Similarly, the Lillinonah drawdown will lower lake levels to minimum pond levels and return to normal operating elevations on November 7, providing homeowners the opportunity to remove structures, boat lifts, and docks from Lake Lillinonah to prevent ice or flood damage from occurring during the winter months.

Again, all work planned to occur along the shoreline requires prior permitting from FirstLight, who can be contacted at lake.permits@firstlightpower.com.
