To the Editor:

My neighbor Ned Simpson moved to Newtown a few years ago and hit the ground running. Ned immediately got involved in our neighborhood. He started a communications committee, which launched a newsletter to keep us more aware of what is happening in our neighborhood and our town. He encouraged us to start a biweekly neighborhood gathering to build more of a community spirit.

In town, he joined the board of FONS (Friends of Newtown Seniors). He helped set up a town senior resource and information website and is now head of a steering committee that is working with AARP/WHO on a livable community project to enhance services available in Newtown.

A year ago, he volunteered to fill a vacancy on the Board of Finance. He has agreed to stay on if elected.

Ned is an extremely hard worker with an amazing amount of energy. He loves to research, which has helped him understand Newtown and the workings of the Board of Finance. He is retired and therefore has the time and the interest to put into the Board of Finance. His business experiences in managing large projects while reducing costs are a great asset for Newtown.

His goal is simple. The most efficient use of our taxpayer’s dollars. We would be lucky to have him continue on the Board of Finance.
