To the Editor:

I am proud to be appearing on Row A along with a group of dedicated, thoughtful candidates on the November 7 ballot.

Dan Cruson, who is running for First Selectman, has a lifelong commitment and several generations invested in Newtown. He has seven years’ experience on the Board of Education — a volunteer position that requires a tremendous time commitment. But beyond the time and years he has spent, he has a record of success. During his time on the board, he was part of bringing the Hawley HVAC project to fruition, changing to healthier school start times, supporting learning during the pandemic, and two effective superintendent searches. He will bring the collaboration and dedication that led to those successes, as well as a Newtown-centered focus to the office of First Selectman.

The Democratic candidates likewise bring experience, dedication, and vision. An overwhelming majority of them have previously held elected positions, and they have more than a century of combined experience on boards and commissions. Several have served as chairs on boards or commissions. Their professional work experience and volunteerism complement the offices they are seeking, and there are 12 incredibly qualified women who will bring a more diverse perspective to the representation on our boards and council if elected.

The Democratic candidates have focused on local issues such as smart development, schools, streets, and security. They have shared their credentials and their vision for Newtown in letters to the editor, in bios, and while knocking on neighbors’ doors.

Now, it is your turn to do right by our community, become familiar with the choices, and vote on Tuesday, November 7.
