Bookshelf Treasures: Discovering

Rare And Hard-To-Find Books

BETHLEHEM — “Bookshelf Treasures: Discovering Rare and Hard-To-Find Books,” at the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden this weekend, will be for anyone who wants to understand what gives a book a lasting value and what that value is today.

Does your favorite childhood storybook, lovingly cared for, have any market value? Does the early 1900s book written by your grandfather have any value today? Would it be wise to separate beautiful botanical prints from a book just picked up at a tag sale?

Antiquarian bookseller Bill Goring of Nutmeg Books in Torrington and the staff at Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden will offer an afternoon of learning as well as appraising on Sunday, November 5, from 1 to 5 pm. Mr Goring will speak about what is hot and new in the book collecting world, how the Internet has changed the antiquarian bookselling market, and how to effectively use the Internet to search for additions to a personal collection.

Visitors are welcome to bring books for an appraisal.

Cost for the afternoon is $5 per person, which includes the appraisal of one book. Additional books will be appraised for $3 each, with a limit of five books.

Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden, at 9 Main Street, can be reached at 203-266-7596.
