The Newtown Bridle Lands Association’s Frost on the Pumpkin Pace on Sunday, October 28, was more than a bunch of people in costume riding the horse trails around Newtown – it was the conclusion of the Associated Bridle Trails Fall Pace series.

Several NBLA riders and area residents were named among the champions of the six-pace series – which included the paces of the Bedford Riding Lanes Association in Bedford, New York; the Putnam Horse Council in Carmel, New York; the Middlebury Bridle Lands Association in Middlebury; the Lewisboro Horseman’s Association in Pound Ridge, New York; the Greenwich Riding and Trails Association in Greenwich; and the NBLA.

All paces are held to benefit those not-for-profit, volunteer organizations which support the preservation of open space and historic riding trails. The paces were held on Sundays throughout September and October, attracting up to 330 riders each.

NBLA riders Deborah and Bill Carlson were Pleasure Division Champions, having racked up 32 points, which included first place wins in Bedford and Greenwich. Marcye Britt, Corrine Houston and Betsy Westerfield tied for Reserve Champion, with 26 points.

The Western Division Championship was won by Ed Pryblyski with 35 points. Lucy Pryblyski was Reserve Champion with 31 points. Ed and Lucy had a first place win in Bedford and Lucy had top honors at the NBLA pace.

Other division winners included Fred Nives and Evelyn Parkes, Hunt Champions; Anita Keefe and June Ledingham, Hunt Reserve Champions; Lindsay Knable and Lizzie Geissler, Junior Champions; Rachel Pech and Wendy Garfinkle, Junior Reseve Champions; and Overall Champions Lawrence Mignone and Anthony Zumpano.
