Morley Joins NSB Board

Newtown Savings Bank announced that at their November board meeting James T. Morley, Jr, was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Mr Morley is a retired broadcast executive currently involved in several startup media initiatives. He began his career in broadcasting during his senior year at Boston College. Following his graduation in 1971, he held various positions with RKO General, Plough Broadcasting, and McGavern-Guild National Radio Sales, all in Boston.

In October of 1978, he joined Park City Communications, a newly formed radio broadcasting company headquartered in Bridgeport, that included WEZN-FM (now Starr 99.9). Mr Morley fulfilled a number of responsibilities for Park City Communications as national sales manager, vice president, general manager, and partner until the sale of Park City to Katz Communications in December of 1981. Mr Morley served as senior vice president of the new company until August 1986, when he and several partners acquired the interest of Katz Communication’s nine radio properties to form New City Communications. Over the ensuring years New City acquired additional stations in new markets and in April 1997 reached an agreement to sell its interests in all of its 17 radio stations to Cox Radio, Inc., of Atlanta.

Mr Morley was senior group vice president of Cox Radio, Inc., until his retirement in April 1999.

Mr Morely is involved in a number of business and community activities. He is past president of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association, former treasurer and director of the Advertising Club of Fairfield County, and many years director of the NY Market Radio Assoc.

A past trustee of the Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, he is currently Vice president and director of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He continues a long association as board member of the Newtown Scholarship Association.

Mr Morley and his wife, Marcia, have two children an have lived in Newtown since 1978.
