Bicycle Hit & Run

Police said bicyclist Michael Roberto, 53, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who was riding a yellow Cannondale downhill eastward on the right side of Church Hill Road, while wearing a helmet and reflective vest, at about 12:12 pm on December 15 was struck by a motor vehicle.

The impact tossed Roberto onto the ground on the eastbound road shoulder, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked Roberto for minor injuries, police said.

After the impact, the motorist that had struck Roberto slowed the vehicle and then stopped briefly and then traveled eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The offending vehicle was described as being a medium-sized red passenger car. The vehicle may have been a red Toyota Celica with black body trim and a New York State marker plate, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Gladys Pisani at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 12:06 am on December 13, a 2014 Nissan Murano SUV driven by Anthony Trotti, 48, of Danbury was seen traveling eastward on Berkshire Road, after which it made a U-turn at Berkshire Road’s intersection with Toddy Hill Road.

The Nissan struck a curbside residential mailbox near 35 Berkshire Road, police said.

Police said they stopped the Nissan to investigate, after which they charged Trotti with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and failure to renew a driver’s license.

After processing, police released Trotti on $100 bail for a January 5 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street, near Pecks Lane, about 9 am on December 14, according to police.

The collision involved motorist Wesley Douglass, 21, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy; motorist Rebekah Burke, 21, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra; and motorist Kenneth Locke, 48, of 7 Valley Field Road North, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Douglass an infraction for traveling too fast for condition and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Drug Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Shannon Kekac, 28, of Shelton turned herself over to police at the police station on December 16 in connection with an incident that occurred on September 1 at the CVS Pharmacy at 6 Queen Street, where Kekac worked as a pharmacy technician, according to police.

Police said they lodged five charges against Kekac. Police said the charges involve illegally obtaining prescription drugs, illegally possessing prescription drugs, illegally possessing a controlled substance, fraud, and sixth-degree larceny.

After processing, police released Kekac on $5,000 bail for a January 16 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Church Hill Road

Three vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction accident during wet conditions on eastbound Church Hill Road, near Commerce Road, at about 6 pm on December 17.

In that incident, motorist Daniel Pearson, 17, of 18 Pearl Street, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Wrangler SUV, struck the rear end of a 2000 Toyota Avalon sedan driven by Sierra Toomey, 18, of 7 Skytop Drive, pushing the Avalon into the rear end of a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner SUV driven by Duane Jones, 59, of 16 Walnut Tree Hill Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pearson for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Mercedes Vs Honda

Police said motorist Carin Jamieson, 58, of 28 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2013 Honda Fit SUV westward on Sugar Street, made a right turn onto Madison Drive at about 6:17 pm on December 18.

Motorist Christine Foege, 47, of 31 Shepard Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Mercedes-Benz ML-320 SUV up ahead of the Honda, then stopped and backed up on Madison Drive, striking the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Foege received a written warning for unsafe backing, according to police.

Hattertown Road

Motorist Ben Mason, 16, of 6 Purdy Station Road was driving a 2006 Cadillac Escalade SUV southward on Hattertown Road, near Merlin’s Lane, about 7:19 am on December 9, when a deer ran onto the roadway, police report.

Mason then swerved to the right to avoid striking the deer, but the Cadillac struck a tree along the right road shoulder, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Mason a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Asleep At Wheel

State police report that at about 4 pm on December 15, motorist Marc Fishbein, 67, of Putnam Valley, N.Y., who was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus sedan eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, fell asleep at the wheel and then entered the highway median where the Ford struck a small tree.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Fishbein for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Hanover/Main

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hanover Road at its intersection with Main Street about 8:21 am on December 16.

Motorist Kyle Kimball, 29, of 55 Sugar Street, who was driving a commercial 2005 Ford Econoline van southward on Hanover Road, stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Main Street, after which the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Jeremy Benson, 45, of 11 Tamarack Road, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Titan pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Benson for following too closely.

Diamond Drive

About 1:12 pm on December 21, motorist Fred Sgammato, 92, of 9 Diamond Drive, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Diamond Drive, stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

The Toyota then entered Mt Pleasant Road and collided with motorist Corrine Kirschbaum, 49, of Bethel, who was driving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV northward on Mt Pleasant Road, police said. Police said they verbally warned Sgammato for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Flagpole Intersection

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street about 2:12 pm on December 16.

While it was waiting at the stop sign on Church Hill Road, a 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Kishori Barman, 66, of 21 Queen Street, was struck from behind by a 2007 Subaru Legacy driven by Catherine Lynch, 79, of 42 Elizabeth Circle, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Lynch for following too closely.

Porsche Panamera

Police received a report about 9:30 am on December 15, that a person driving a 2009 Nissan Rogue SUV had struck a 2014 Porsche Panamera four-door sedan in the commercial parking lot near Caraluzzi’s Market on Queen Street, causing minor damage to the Porsche and then left the scene without reporting the accident.

Police said they investigated and then located Anjali Arora, 43, of Redding, whom they charged with evading responsibility. Police released her on $250 bail for a January 6 court appearance.

Palestine Road

At about 4:30 pm on December 20, motorist Alexander Copp, 31, of 26 Palestine Road was driving a 2013 Honda Civic southward on Palestine Road and negotiating a right curve in the road, as motorist Amar Amembal, 71, of 16 White Oak farm Road was driving a Saab 9-5 auto northward there, police said.

The Honda then entered the opposite lane, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated those involved in the accident at the scene, police said. Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters responded to the accident.

Police said they issued Copp an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Device Found

Police report they have received for safekeeping a black Fitbit Flex, which is a wireless activity-and- sleep electronic wristband monitoring device. Police said they received the device on the afternoon of November 11. It had been found on Mt Nebo Road. Police said the owner may claim the device by contacting them at the police station about Case 2015-28092.

MVA Altercation

Police report that at about 1:30 pm on December 22, motorist Alexander Reddinger, 21, of Bethel, who was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester westward on Mt Pleasant Road near Blackman Road, attempted to pass westbound motorist Francisco Figueroa, 27, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic.

Due to oncoming eastbound traffic, however, the Subaru then slowed and attempted to reenter the westbound lane, but then struck the Honda, causing minor damage, police said. There were no injuries.

After both vehicles stopped, Figueroa exited the Honda and started a verbal altercation with Reddinger, police said.

Police said they issued Reddinger an infraction for unsafe passing, traveling too fast for conditions, and following too closely. Police report they gave Figueroa an infraction for creating a public disturbance and driving without a license.

South Main Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred on northbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Elm Drive about 5:50 pm on December 22.

In that incident, motorist Tamera Byun, 48, of Pawling, N.Y., who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, struck the rear end of a 2008 Scion X-B driven by Matheus Matias-DosSantos, 22, of Danbury, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Byun for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Collision

At about 5:12 pm on December 22, on eastbound Church Hill Road near its intersection with Edmond Road, motorist Larry Pignatello, 30, of 27 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 2003 GMC Savanna van, struck the rear end of 2015 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Betsy Linzer Rickert, 56, of 195 Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene. Police said they issued Pignatello a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
