Newtown High School’s field hockey and girls’ soccer teams posted season-opening victories on September 12.

Newtown High School’s cross country teams began the season with a pair of wins, defeating the New Fairfield Rebels and Stratford Red Devils on its home course, adjacent to Reed Intermediate School, on September 10.

With their backs against the wall and in need of three wins in one day, members of the My Place team put forth a valiant effort in the Newtown Men’s Sunday Softball League upper division playoffs at Dickinson Park on September 8.

Coming off a season in which it scored what Coach Stephanie Kearns believes is a program season record number of goals (last year’s Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) results show 64 cage-finders between regular and postseason), Newtown High School’s field hockey team is looking for even more.

Becky Osborne, coach of the Newtown High School girls’ swimming and diving team, is embracing the team’s early bump in the road — not having a home pool for what she believes will be the first month or so of the campaign.
