Jaclyn Shea, daughter of Vinny and Alida Shea of Sandy Hook, was recently named to the deanâs list at Syracuse University with a GPA of 3.82. A music education major, Jaclyn has been accepted and was awarded a scholarship toward a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain. Jaclyn will be spending six weeks in Spain this summer, taking courses through the Syracuse University Program in Madrid. She will be living with a host family. Jaclyn is a 1998 graduate of Newtown High School.

Sarah Elizabeth Doherty, a junior from Newtown, CT, child of Mr and Mrs James H. Doherty, was placed on the Deansâ Honors List for outstanding academic achievement in the fall 1999 term at the College. Students with a quality point average of 3.60 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for a semesterâs work are placed on the Deansâ Honor List. Students with a quality point average of 3.33 or higher for a semesterâs work are placed on the Deansâ Commendation List.
Betsy Patricia Earle was recently inducted into Phi Eta Sigma at the University of Rhode Island, during the annual honor dinner. At the event, 231 students were inducted into the freshmen honor society. To become a member of the honor society, students must have earned a 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average in their first year of college.
Vera Weeden of Newtown has been named to the deanâs list for the fall semester at Pace University. A first year student in the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Vera is studying art. She is the grandmother of Nick and Sophie Leibowitz of Danbury. Vera is a 1949 graduate of Madchengymnasium, Basel, Switzerland.
