The Battle Of Gettysburg, Day Two

BROOKFIELD CENTER — Peter Cronin, a member of the Brookfield Historical Society Board of Directors, will give a lecture and visual presentation on the events of Day Two of the great American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg, on Monday, May 7, at 7:30 pm. The presentation will be at the society’s museum, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133.

As the sun rose on the morning of July 2, 1863, more than 150,000 Union and Confederate troops had converged on Gettysburg. The Southerners occupied a line northwest of the Emmittsburg Pike along a section known as Seminary Ridge. The Northern troops waited across the road along Cemetery Ridge, a slightly more elevated crest that ran south towards a small hill known as Little Round Top.

Confederate commander Robert E. Lee planned to assault the left portion and flank of the Union line. Mr Cronin will focus his discussion on the results.

The presentation is part of the continuing forum on the Civil War sponsored by the historical society. The public is invited, admission is free and complimentary refreshments will be served.
