AG Urges Alternatives To Lobster Fishing Ban

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is urging the American Lobster Management Board to consider alternatives to a possible five-year moratorium on lobster fishing south of Cape Cod.

Mr Blumenthal on Tuesday urged the board, which was scheduled to meet in Warwick, R.I., on Thursday after the deadline for this issue, to examine other conservation measures such as reducing the catch of egg-bearing females and creating no-harvest areas.

Mr Blumenthal says a moratorium could potentially devastate the state’s commercial lobster fishermen, wholesalers, and retailers.
