Occupation: I am the sole proprietor of Ultra Maroon Designs, based out of my Sandy Hook home This is my 25th year. I do print and web design, and copy writing for all kinds of businesses. Iâm a little shop that does a little for everybody. My motto is, âIf I canât do it, I know someone who does.â For instance, I just wrote the biography of Alfred Hitchcock for a bobble head of Alfred, and designed the packaging. Iâm also the founder and president of Kitten Associates, Inc.
Family: My fiancé, Sam Moore, is my family. I have a sister-in-law and a nephew here in Sandy Hook, too, Anne and Ryan.
Pets: I have enough cats to cover my bed. I never know for sure how many, because I foster cats and kittens. We also have two feral cats we care for outside, and lots of birds at our feeders. We have a lot of wildlife, including a barred owl Iâve recorded on my iPhone.
How long have you lived in Sandy Hook? In August, it will be 20 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I have a cat-centric blog called âCovered in Cat Hairâ that has won a best educational blog award from Cat Writersâ Association, and I am involved in cat rescue and helping people with cat behavior issues. I like to do stand up comedy, and I was recently invited to a storytelling/comedy fundraiser at the Gotham Comedy Night Club in Manhattan, July 13. Iâm also writing a contemporary womenâs literature book â chick lit. I love to read and go to movies. I also love to âmatch makeâ foster cats with adoptive families â I love to find the âpurr-fectâ match!
What is your favorite movie? There are so many! Jane Eyre with Orson Welles was a beautiful movie. Another that Iâve watched about a thousand times is Bridget Jonesâ Diary.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? I donât get a chance to go much of anywhere these days, but Iâd go to Maine. Iâve been there numerous times, and I love the coast.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Itâs far enough away from the craziness of southern Fairfield County, but not so remote you canât get services. And I love that it is still so forested. It maintains its natural beauty.
What is one change in town youâve seen that you love? Being able to get something to eat that is not pizza. We have some great variety and great quality in restaurants now, and thatâs been wonderful.
Who do you most admire? I work with a lot of people who have been doing cat rescue for a long time. They are in the trenches and do a lot of heartbreaking work. I look up to them. They have the heart and the stamina to do it.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Something deeply ingrained in me is impermanence. No matter how bad something is, itâs not going to last. Experience what is around you, and live in the moment.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Of course I do! Spending all day in bed with a good cup of tea, reading a great book, and snuggled up with Sam and my furry friends. I canât remember the last time I got to do that.
