First selectman hopeful Gary Fetzer Tuesday introduced his running mate for
the November election - Ann Krane, a local realtor and former Legislative
Council member.
The two Democrats went public with their political partnership on the steps of
Edmond Town Hall. Mr Fetzer is the first candidate to announce a running mate.
No announcements have yet been made by Democrats Herb Rosenthal or Chris
Spiro, or Republican hopefuls Cordalie Benoit, Bill Brimmer and Russ Melita.
Mrs Krane, a resident of Newtown since 1972, served on the council from
1976-81. She also made a run for the House of Representatives in the
Connecticut General Assembly in 1986, during which time she met Mr Fetzer, who
helped out in the campaign.
The first selectman hopeful said Mrs Krane's background in local politics,
real estate and the non-profit sector made her an obvious choice.
"I value her opinion and I believe the members of the board can prove
invaluable as sounding boards and in helping to identify alternative solutions
to the problems the people of this town face," said Mr Fetzer.
The two candidates say they share a desire to preserve the beauty and
integrity of Newtown.
Mrs Krane, of 6 Lincoln Road, is owner and managing broker for Buyer's
Resource Real Estate-Fairfield County North, located in Monroe. She was
previously affiliated with Newtown Country Realty and Realtech Realtors in
Newtown. She has served on the Board of Ethics and the Water Pollution Control
Authority and is a member of the Newtown Business and Professional Women's
Club and League of Women Voters. Mrs Krane was also the director of the WIC
(Women, Infants and Children) program for Danbury.
She recently submitted her name to the Democratic Town Committee for
consideration.
The selectman hopeful is the mother of three children, Mark, Alexa and Erika.
