The only team to truly test Newtown High School’s field hockey team in its first seven contests is Pomperaug of Southbury. The most recent field hockey exam of sorts took a little extra time — as in overtime — but the undefeated Nighthawks got the job done thanks to Shannon Kelleher’s clinching cage-finder 2:20 into OT.

Newtown High School’s boys’ soccer team blanked Brookfield 5-0 in a road contest on October 8, and doubled up host Immaculate of Danbury 2-1 on October 13 to improve to 4-0-1 heading into Thursday’s home game with New Fairfield (Blue & Gold Stadium at 5:30 pm).

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team defeated host Brookfield in a match that began on October 7 and had to be completed two days later due to a power outage. The Nighthawks won 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-21).

Newtown High School’s field hockey team defeated visiting New Fairfield 6-2 at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 7, and toppled host New Milford by the same score on October 13.

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team highlighted its 94-87 win over visiting New Milford on October 9 with a pair of pool record-setting performances.

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' cross country teams raced against visiting Pomperaug of Southbury in their season-starting meets, at the Reed School trails on October 6.

The rules may be vastly different, but the result was a familiar one, with Newtown High School’s football team again putting forth a dominating effort against a South-West Conference foe. The Nighthawks won their first 7 versus 7 game/strongman competition in a 39-0 triumph at Pomperaug of Southbury, on October 2.

Competing at its home pool while the opposition swam at their home venues as part of coronavirus restrictions, Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team came out on top 96-85 in a season-opening meet with Pomperaug of Southbury on October 2, and 99-76 in a meet with Brookfield on October 6.
