Ringing The Bell

To the Editor:

The articles and photo in The Bee helped bring the message of the Newtown Service Unit of the Salvation Army out to more people and more volunteers came forth to ring bells this year. We appreciate all your efforts on our behalf, especially Steve Bigham, and now the annual “Thank You” to those others who participated.

We are indebted to Ann Piccini, Bill Timmel, Paul Lux, Pam and Dick Goodman, John Klopfenstein, Jim Lysaght, Bob and Sylvia Poulin, Jerry O’Neil, Carolyn and Bill Downing, Sheila Coles, Theresa McMorrow and Dan Pister, Bill O’Neil, George Mattegat, Tom Goosman, Chuck and Jean Leety, Barbara Webb, Bill Webb, Mallory and Michael Webb, Brenda Lock, Barbara, Bob and Rob Harrison, Don Coffey, Philis Coffey, Colton Sposta, Coke and Al Cramer, Barbara O’Connor, Joe and Jane Bojnowski, Gordon and Betty Mounts, Nita Hill, Marie Smith, Glenna and Ed Rees, Pat Linnell, Cathy Masi, Judith Coffey and Meredith, Harmon and Sam, Joe Borst, Kali Santarpia, Jaime Huppenthal, Courtney MacRae, June McGroary, Ron Leddy, Marie Sturdevant, Carol Mattegat, Jane Sharpe, Barbara Bigham and her granddaughter Kristin Pino, Bill Harris, Sam Warburton and Rachael, Don Sharpe, John and Chris Reed, Jay and Brandon Thomas, Helen Wahlstrom, Theresa McMorrow and Don Pister and their eighth grade CCD Christmas community service project participants, Aimee Clavette, Brendon Coakley, Timothy Cummings, Michael Cash, Kyle Lyddy, Caitlin Malloy, Patrick O’Dell and Anna Pister, Joan Salbu and the St Rose seventh grade class consisting of Brian Shimko, Nick Cavalier, Sarah Salbu, Jillian Tanner, Kellie Daitan, Emily Fields and Evan Barbour, who all rang bells for one hour each.

The members of the Mens Literary and Social Club of Newtown Street who ring annually are Dan Cruson, Dick Sturdevant (three hours), Bill Meyer (two hours), Bob Hall, Jim Morley, John Madzula, Bill Honan, Dunham Smith, and Bob Schmidle.

To Allan Graves, assistant scoutmaster, and his Boy Scout Troop #270 Dodgingtown.

Our three-hour bell ringer this year was Laurie Wrabel.

Two-hour bell ringers were John Cochran, Jack O’Byrne, Owen and Sue Carney, Kathy Martin, Chris and Caitlin.

These people made our lives a little easier this busy time of the year.

We are happy to report that we raised $3,200 this year! And that does not include the $1,000 donation from the employees of Taunton Press. We can’t thank all who donated to this cause enough because without their caring for their fellow man, this would not have been possible. The phrase “Nicer in Newtown” is truer than ever.

Gratefully,

(Mrs) Sylvia Poulin
