FISH Says Thanks

To the Editor:

With this letter to readers of The Newtown Bee the officers of Fish of Newtown Inc. want to praise our 16 regular volunteer drivers and 20 substitute drivers for the tremendous job they do for the town. In this past year, FISH has handled 1,030 calls, an unparalleled number, from needy people who have medical appointments but no transportation to get them there. This number is twice that of the past two years. Each driver takes a minimum of two calls per month, and some drive three and four times. And they do it because they want to help people. They enjoy how they feel when doing it.

Here’s a list of our drivers: Regulars: Doris Bolmer, Bob Dyer, Wes Gillingham, Melissa Kraycir, Mike Meffert, Al Mitchell, Marcia Morley, Joe Murphy, Tim O’Connor, Jerry O’Neil, Ellen Parrella, Pat and Dick Parrot, Deirdre Smialowski, Al Taubert, Peg Watson. Floyd Higgins comes on board in July.

These are the substitutes: Jan and Bob Carter, Jill Beaudry, Tom Cassin, Amy Dent, Al Goodrich, Dick Kraycir, Bill Mayer, Sandra Marsilius, Dolores and George Miller, Sylvia and Bob Poulin, Chris Schmitt, Bob Stokes, John Watson, Connie Wong, Vikki Carlson, Marge Eldridge, Cindy Anderau.

This letter also gives us a chance to thank our generous organizational donors who in the past year have given substantially, helping pay our main expense: the switchboard without financial help in the past year, from the Lions Club, the Rotary Club, and the Woman’s Club, we could not meet our monthly bill.

Doris Bulmer, president

Ellen Parrella, vice-president

Al Goodrich, treasurer

Mary Mitchell, secretary
