Star Gazing at Osbornedale

DERBY — A night program at Osbornedale State Park will be offered Saturday, July 26, to study the progression of astronomy and the identification of common constellations throughout the summer.

Astronomy is the study of celestial objects visible in the night sky. Prior to current scientific knowledge, stars were believed to be conductors of omens and messengers of the gods. The names of the constellations still harkens back to many of the cultural beliefs and values of the societies from which they were named.

Join astronomers at Osbornedale as they help identify celestial objects, constellations, and the Perseid Meteor Shower. Some equipment will be provided or you may bring your own.

The park will be operating under special hours during the event. The program is free to the public, but registration is required. For more information and to register, call the Kellogg Environmental Center at 734-2513.
