However, the organization which has petitioned for a referendum on the so-called âtax capâ measure argues that by reducing wasteful spending and belt-tightening similar to what the homeowner has to do in inflationary times, Newtown can function with a tax limitation ordinance.

A 20 x 30 foot shack was totally destroyed in a fire on Wednesday afternoon. According to Dodgingtown Fire Chief Kash White, about 30 men responded to the call on Jacklin Road. âWhen we arrived the shack was engulfed in flames,â said Chief White. Chief Kash says the fire was of suspicious nature and is being investigated.

The Board of Selectmen will ask the electors of Newtown to approve the borrowing of $27,000 in anticipation of taxes and the reimbursement of a part of that sum by the United States government, to cover emergency flood repairs to town property, at a special town meeting, next Friday night, November 25, at 8 oâclock at Edmond Town Hall.

 Complaints have been lodged with town authorities about the practice of burning leaves along the curb. According to Police Officer Hiram Hanlon, several near accidents have been caused by smokescreens laid down by property owners who use the state and town highways for incinerators. It has been suggested that homeowners burn their leaves on their own properties, preferably away from the streets.

The Town basketball team will play its first game of the season next Friday, November 21, at the Town hall. It will also be the first game for their opposition, the Hawley High School. There will be dancing following the game with ;music by Gene Supples orchestra of eight pieces of Bridgeport. The admission will be 50 cents, which includes the dancing.

While Walter Ruffels was calling on his brother, George Ruffels, in Hawleyville, one day last week, some one stole a pig from his wagon which he was delivering to parties in that part of the town. He had another one in the wagon, which was not taken.
