With a 17 wins (14 of those in the regular season) and no losses, the Newtown VFW Post 308 owned the Jerry Dejulia Weekend Open Softball League.

Post 308 captured the league championship with a perfect 17-0 record (14-0 in the regular season, 3-0 in the playoffs).

The VFW and Post Commander Junie Ingram made the donation that paid the team’s entrance fee into the league and allowed it to purchase team shirts from Ron Nicholson of RCN Embroidery (which provided jackets after the squad won the title). The VFW was led by Tim Powell, tops in the league in home runs and RBI, and Brian Fulton. The VFW out-scored its opponents 220-86 along the way, thanks to the pitching of Jim Dudeck and the midseason pickups of Dave D’Amore and Don Hallabeck.

Tim Powell and Rich Frampton coached the squad.
