ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Tickets are going on sale Saturday for the MARILYN MANSON and HOLE concert at
New Haven Coliseum. Tickets for the April 10 concert will be available through
TicketMaster and directly from the coliseum's box office.
Also on sale this weekend will be tickets for JEFF BECK at the Oakdale, who
will be at the Wallingford theatre on March 21. BRUCE HORNSBY is also
returning to Connecticut this spring, on April 3. No tickets for this show
quiet yet, however.
Congratulations are certainly in order for MIGHTY PURPLE. The New Haven-based
band has been touring the East Coast ( LOTS of shows at Toad's Place!) for
over six years, and has now been signed to Wild Pitch Records of New York
City. The record company already has the band's first album in the works, a
live compilation to be called Para Mejor O Peor...Mighty Purple Live . The
55-minute disc will feature live electric and acoustic rock songs by the
four-piece group primarily recorded, incidentally, at Toad's Place.
The band is led by the vocal harmonies of brothers Jon and Steve Rodgers,
along with drummer David Keith and bass player Adrian Van de Graff. Wild Pitch
is an indie label based in NYC, and distributed nationally by Distribution
North America (DNA).
The Holiday Inn in Danbury (Newtown Road, opposite Bradlees) will host a
record show on Sunday, February 28. Dealer space is still available, at $60
for a six-foot table, or $30 for a three-foot table; call Absolute Vinyl, the
show's sponsor, at 973/746-7775, for details.
The show itself will run 10 am to 4 pm, with no admission charged. Anyone
interested in attending the preview, which opens at 8 pm, can pay $20. THE
BLACK MAMA DHARMA BAND will be performing at noon.
Y2K Countdown Thought: (In a world where we wouldn't have to worry about our
safety in such a place...) How funny would it be if, at the stroke of midnight
this December 31, when the ball hits the bottom of the pole, all the lights
just go OUT in Times Square? Everyone all wound up, party hats on and
streamers ready to be streamed, the countdown in full swing, and.... nothing.
Talk about a party ender.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
