ON THE ROAD FOR SEPTEMBER 26

The Hartford Civic Center has been pretty quiet in recent months, but a PHISH

concert on November 26 should shake things up a little bit up in the Capitol

City.

My grandparents, who live in Maine, sent down some newspaper clippings from

the recent Phishfest Weekend thing the band had up there and the photos were a

riot! The Maine Turnpike was backed up for miles; those poor toolbooth clerks

never knew what hit them! Concertgoers turned into weekend campers, and fans

took over an old airport and its runway, covering the area with thousands of

tents and setting up home-away-from-home for a few days.

The best part about the entire event, however, was that even with all those

people milling around (including a few from this area who made the weekend

trek), all reports indicate the crowds were calm and friendly. Some of us in

Connecticut could certainly take some lessons on concert etiquette from those

folks.

A few more concerts have been announced this week. First, THE INDIGO GIRLS

will be at The Palace in New Haven on Tuesday, October 28. Tickets go on sale

this Saturday morning at 10 am and can be obtained directly through the

Palace's box office (789-2120 for info), or charge through Pro-Tix,

860/422-0000. All tickets for this show are $27.50. An opener hasn't been

announced.

At The Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford a few days later (Saturday, Nov 1),

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD will be performing. The group, which is remembered for,

among other things, "Closer To Home/I'm Your Captain," "We're An American

Band" and "Some Kind of Wonderful," is now comprised of Mark Farner, Don

Brewer and Mel Schacher.

These tickets are also going on sale Saturday morning and can be purchased

through the Meadows box office, or Pro-Tix. Tickets are $38 for Gold Circle,

$28 for the remainder of the pavilion.

Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
