Lamont Directs Flags To Half-Staff Friday In Honor Of Former US Senator Joseph LiebermanGovernor Ned Lamont is directing US and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset tomorrow as a mark of solemn respect for the memory and longstanding service of former US Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, who died Wednesday. HARTFORD — Governor Ned Lamont today announced that as a mark of solemn respect for the memory and longstanding service of former US Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, who died Wednesday, March 27, he is directing US and state flags in Connecticut lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of the former senator’s funeral, which has been scheduled for Friday, March 29.Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the US flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time. The funeral service will be held at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford.Lieberman, who nearly won the vice presidency on the Democratic ticket with Al Gore in the disputed 2000 election and who almost became Republican John McCain’s running mate eight years later, died in New York City on Wednesday due to complications from a fall, according to a statement issued by his family.
